XL Polycarbonate Fire Piston With Aluminum Piston Kit

Our mid-grade model is a polycarbonate fire piston with an aluminum piston. This model has an extra long stroke making it much easier to use. We chose to manufacture this fire piston out of polycarbonate because it is literally bullet-proof. Polycarbonate is very similar to the material know as Lexan ® which is used as bullet-proof glass. This is a very versatile material and VERY strong. Paired with an aluminum piston that will not melt or burn, this is a very durable fire piston.

The best part of using this material is that the person using the fire piston can see what is going on inside as they use it. Being able to view what is happening is critical to learning to use the fire piston effectively in the beginning. In addition to being strong and clear polycarbonate does not absorb water like wood does.

Traditional fire pistons are made of wood and use a wax string for a seal. We use a rubber o-ring, which also won't absorb water like a string can and it is much easier to replace when it wears out.
